Emergency & Disaster Response Guide

General Instructions

  • Tune your radio to the City of Carbondale’s Public Information Radio Station AM1620 for General and Emergency Information.
  • Make sure you know the SIUC Emergency phone number, which is 911.
  • Review the Emergency Response Guide on this website at least once per semester.
  • Plan at least two emergency evacuation routes, remembering that in most cases you will not be able to use an elevator.
  • If you live in a residence hall, know your emergency assembly area.
  • Wireless phone subscribers are asked to store the word "ICE" or "in case of emergency" in their wireless phone address books and put their next of kin's phone number next to it. In the event of an emergency, this person would be contacted quickly by ambulance and hospital personnel. Putting a space ahead of the word "ICE" will place the listing first in the directory, eliminating the need for emergency personnel to waste time scrolling the list.
